
In ancient Egypt pharaohs, noble-men and priests were in charge of illustrating manuscripts which contained prayers and instructions on how the deceased ought to behave in the after-life.
Later, for many years, scribes and miniature artists copied and illuminated codices and manuscripts. In their effort to document history they managed to create some magnificent and stunning pieces of art.
Thanks to their hard work it became possible to transmit classical culture throughout all fields of knowledge during that time: Theology, history, literature, art, law, grammar, cosmology, natural sciences, etc.
